Great professor. Very approachable and excited about the topic. Worth taking even if not highly interested in Planning.

This class is a reliable GPA booster built entirely around two straightforward exams and one lengthy hometown analysis paper. Attendance and weekly readings are practically optional, as lectures tend to run dry and prone to meandering tangents, though the instructor’s genuine passion for sustainability shines through. You can comfortably ace the midterms and finals just by reviewing the provided study guides and memorizing key terms rather than tackling the dense, optional textbooks. Treat it as a low-stress elective if you just want an easy three credits, but look elsewhere if you’re hoping for rigorous technical training or substantive planning theory.

Great guy, but not a great lecturer. But the material is still very interesting on its own. Class gets somewhat repetitive.
Beatley is the epitome of professor stereotype- super excited about his subject in an adorably geeky way. He covers interesting topics and makes lectures more personal and interactive. Outside reading isn't necessary if attend lectures, but does help. Very straightforward tests, and paper isn't hard.
PLAN103 was a class that I took to see if I wanted to persue this topic further. I definitely am glad that I took it. Beatley is a very well travelled professor, he takes pictures everywhere that he goes and puts them in his powerpoints. He is great at relating his experiences to the examples that we discuss in class. Also, REALLY easy. Reading is "required".
not terribly a terribly interesting class, beatley tends to ramble...but not a difficult class either. don't bother reading...as long as you can bs, the tests are pretty easy. 3 outside activities required...like going to a city planning meeting,etc..other than that not much work
Solid class. Good intro to college for first years. Lectures will put you to sleep in a millisecond, but professor is well informed and enthusiastic and likes to try and involve the class. Minimal amount of work for a good amount of knowledge and a solid "A".n
Beatley is very enthusiastic about his work, and this class will be easy for you if you can remember specific locations and regurgitate it back on the midterms and final. Go to class for minimal outside work. If you choose not to go, do the readings and you will be golden. This class is an easy A. Take this if you like Environmental Science or Architecture.
Interesting subject material, less than interesting lectures. Come to 60% of the lectures, browse the readings, put some work into the final paper, and you'll get an A.
Most boring class I have ever taken. Skipped a month and still got a 100 on the final. Though you must know your stuff to get a decent grade.
Very enthusiastic and uses a lot of examples to show what good planning is...would recommend to anyone interested in the city around them
