Review Summary Updated April 05, 2026

The instructor is widely praised for bringing dense material to life through storytelling, mnemonics, and genuine enthusiasm, making heavy memorization feel highly engaging. The curriculum leans heavily into infectious diseases rather than traditional science, centering on a weekly disease notebook that becomes your open-note resource for the final exam. Tests are straightforward but content-heavy, so consistent study of the provided guided notes is essential, and independent review is necessary since lectures mostly involve walking through those exact slides. While the notebook can feel like tedious busywork and the format may seem high-school-like to some, staying current with it keeps stress low and guarantees strong grades, especially if you are pursuing healthcare.

Dr. Connelly is an amazing professor. She tries to make the information enjoyable and easy to remember with many different techniques and stories. She teaches out of a summarized notebook that she created based off a few textbooks so students don’t have to read the dense textbook. The tests are very easy if you have read through the lecture notes (I usually don’t stress the tests too much). This was easily one of my favorite classes this semester and I would recommend it, even if you aren’t a nursing student.

I think most of the people in my class did well but I really struggled with this course. The entire lecture is a powerpoint that she reads off and that goes with fill in the blank notes. She tried her best to make the class enjoyable but all the information was dry. It is rote memorization. Her tests are multiple choice with about 3-5 short answer/fill in the blank. It is definitely hard to study for the tests because you pretty much have to learn everything on your own since lecture is just reading off a powerpoint. You have homework called "the notebook" which is basically a book of diseases that you use for the final, which is open notes. Some of the homework in "the notebook" took several hours and there are check up quizzes about every other week to make sure you are keeping up on your homework.
