Professor Morris is one of the most chill and straightforward professors at UVA. He clearly outlined expectations, and the exams were a walk in the park as long as you studied for them and read the textbooks. I aced the class with hard work with an "A+." The TAs were helpful and clear with their feedback, allowing me to see what students did well and, conversely, what they could have improved. There are three exams worth 45%, three "take-home" exams worth 30%, and a final exam worth 25%. All of these were not hard at all. Morris and the TAs wanted you to succeed, and I highly recommend this class to anyone who needs a strong beginning to the Psychology major or minor.

I was scared to take this course because I am not a math person at all and I had heard that PSYC 2005 is actually pretty hard. Professor Morris made the class super easy and understandable. 6 midterms and a final is a lot, but it's super doable because there's so little covered on each midterm. Taking the second half online, he gave us two weeks to complete the last two midterms so it was a breeze. He also made the final optional if you choose to just take the average of your 6 midterms (normally you would drop a midterm). He also made it so your final could only help your grade if you chose to take it. Overall, the material is pretty dry so I would only really recommend it to PSYC minors and majors (don't really know if anyone else takes it anyway), but Morris makes it super doable and a pretty easy A overall.
Morris is definitely the best professor to take this class with. I’ve heard some horror stories about Smyth, but Morris is very straightforward. I do have some qualms with him though. He seemed really disorganized sometimes and he’d routinely have math errors on the PowerPoints he uploaded. He also has 6 exams and a cumulative final, which he tried to play off as being easy, and thus a grade booster, because we’ll have learned all the content through being tested through 6 exams. It’s kind of amusing but I’ve never had a professor try to convince the class that a final exam is a good thing. On the note of exams. the 6 exams are very annoying and you do have an exam basically every other week, but it’s not as bad as it sounds. He makes the exam so it takes about 40 minutes and you use the rest of class time to thoroughly check your work, and they’re very straightforward. Transitioning online has been a challenge for him because he has 3 kids at home, which is understandable, but honestly it’s made the class easier because he has less time to devote to it. Overall, he has his flaws, but so do we all, he’s definitely a great person and makes this class pretty easy. Take it with Morris!
Professor Morris is a great professor and really understanding and truly wants his students to do well! There were 6 exams in the semester not including the final, so there was a good amount of studying every other week. However, each exam weighed less and covered fewer topics so studying was more than bearable and not an exhausting ordeal. I definitely recommend him!
