This class delivers genuinely eye-opening material with a light workload and consistently generous grading. Lectures are so thorough that you can largely skip the heavy reading list and still handle straightforward, note-based exams with ease. The main paper demands a decent page count but lets you pick your own topic and is graded very leniently, especially if you grab early feedback or visit office hours. Just attend regularly, stay vocal in discussion sections, and you will easily secure a strong grade while gaining a completely shifted perspective on how society functions.

Vickerman has a funny lecture and presents movies frequently and lets class go early a lot too. The class was interesting, extremely thought provoking. I usually left class wanting to know so much more about the subjects
The class is very good about explaining the role of race in America and will change how you think for sure. Vickerman is a very nice guy and is a source of a lot of information. There is a good amount of reading but you do need to do it to get an A in the class. There is one large paper, but I found that he graded easily. Take the class!
Great professor, easy grader. He's really approachable and knowledgeable. Go to classes bc the most of the midterm and final come from notes. Readings aren't hard and you only use them as examples on the tests. One paper due towards the middle of the course. Loved the class! :)
All you have to do is memorize all the graphs and diagrams that he gives you and you'll be fine.
This is a great class! I loved it - it was what got me hooked to Sociology. Issues of Race and Ethnicity are fascinating and eye-opening, and for a 300-level class this class isn't hard at all. You will find Professor Vickerman to be relatively easy-going and humorous, and with lots of witty and informative things to say. The reading was a drag, though - I didn't do half of it (which is probably why I got a B+), but you can get by. Fantastic class.
