Review Summary Updated April 05, 2026

This introductory course offers a heavily practical overview of civil engineering, anchored by weekly assignments and a demanding semester-long project that heavily tests your Civil 3D skills. The software is notoriously frustrating but highly valuable for industry work, so expect to spend considerable outside hours self-teaching and troubleshooting. Grading is generous and tests are straightforward if you keep up with the slides, though consistent attendance is strongly recommended since the lecture material can occasionally feel dry. You will easily succeed if you manage your time, start the final design work early, and actively use office hours when the technical tasks pile up.

Not overly difficult material, but this was a tough class to get through. The test and homework questions weren't worded well, and the tests were too long. Also, I thought we were expected to spend too much time on group projects for how much weight they gave them. Its required, but there's a lot of frustrating stuff in this class.

Course is kind of boring and unuseful for those not majoring in Civil Engineering in the field of structural. This course focuses on topics environmental and transportation engineers don't really need to know.

Class is boring. Some of the material is useful, however. The only problem is that you could easily learn it in half the time you spend in class.

Unfortunatally this class is required, the material is dry and boring. The text book is horrible, and the lectures bring little more to what is giving in the book. The material is hard to comprehend due to the lack of information from the professor and the book.
