This is a course designed to support diligent students. Cohoon is charismatic, and makes learning FUN. I'm serious - he's hilarious and the course is fair. He is very accommodating; if you are lost don't be afraid to ask for help sooner rather than later or you'll be screwed!

Cohoon is great, really cares about the subject and the students. For me, the class was a little tricky in the beginning, but became easier as it went on. The TAs are amazing and very helpful. I'm not a huge an of CS, but Cohoon made it very enjoyable. If you have to take CS for a req or have no experience, take 1112 with Cohoon!

I absolutely loved this class! I had never taken CS before, and after this class I am planning on majoring in it! Professor Cohoon is quite the guy and makes classes very interesting. Him and the other TAs helped make concepts clear and the tests were pretty straightforward, just the first one I ran out of time. Overall, a great class!

Jim is the man. This class was great for anyone who wants to learn to code or just needs that degree requirement. Homework is easy and helps you practice skills, exams were totally doable, the TA's are very helpful and I truly think anyone can understand the material at the perfect pace this class moves in. Love me some Cohoon.

CS 1112 was one of my most favorite classes this semester. As a first time coder, I was a bit scared to jump into to coding but CS 1112 was a great and fun introductory course into the coding world. Professor Cohoon was one of the most genuine and sweet professors I have had at UVA and truly does care about his students and well being. He wants you to learn the material well and emphasizes the need for students to ask questions in class. The class itself isn't too hard we just have homework assignments, two tests and a final and they are not hard at all as long as you understand the homeworks and what he goes over in class. CS 1112 has been a great class and I recommend this for anyone looking to have an introductory course in coding!!
