Bloomfield is a BAMF. Go to his office hours. He is amazing and WILL help you. Much better teacher than Horton who I had last time.

This was one of the most difficult classes I have taken at UVA in terms of workload and amount of material covered. The labs are tough but the TAs are very helpful. I learned a lot in this class, so it was definitely worth it.
Bloomfield is a great professor and lecturer and brings a great amount of enthusiasm to the class. However, the amount of work assigned each week is very great, and be prepared to spend ~8 hours on some of the labs (especially a few of the prelabs) the day before they are due. Definitely go to office hours whenever you need assistance, the TAs are very helpful as is Bloomfield. Go through the lecture notes and previous tests when studying for midterms and finals; the sheer number of past tests Bloomfield provides will help you study adequately. There is a generous curve at the end of the course, so as long as you can keep your lab and test grades reasonably decent, you should be fine.
This class consumed the majority of my semester. The workload was ridiculous and downright cruel with 3 labs a week and some labs over breaks. Even so, this class definitely helped me better understand how computers work. An upbeat and helpful professor. He provides class lectures and slides online which is a plus.
This class is hell. But you have to take it because it's required for the major. Good luck and memorize the practice tests. I would recommend printing practice tests out and taking notes on them directly and asking him questions that are on the practice exams during lecture.
Bloomfield is fun and you'll learn alot in his class. But be warned, the workload is intense!
Bloomfield is a prick, he assigns way more work than necessary in an attempt to seem like a legitimate member of the CS department faculty (hey Aaron, you aren't getting tenure. deal with it.) He assigned a lab over Thanksgiving break which with no TA help isn't something easily done. This class is required for BSCS and BACS majors so you have to take it, but if you have the option to take it with someone other than Bloomfield then definitely do that.
Bloomfield is an excellent lecturer but should not be a professor. He assigned far more work than necessary, and on multiple occasions "accidentally" gave us even more work than intended, taking as much as 15-20 hours on the worst weeks. This course is required for CS majors, but if you don't have to take it, don't.
The labs are insane but you feel accomplished after them. TA office hrs became my life. For tests, look at previous tests and rematch lectures online to do well.
Good teacher but very hard class with a ton of work
