Coppock is an excellent professor. He is entertaining, funny, and has an excellent teaching style. He uses power points effectively and the textbook (written by him) coincides with the material. The exams aren't too bad, and the in-class clicker questions are slightly easier than those in Microecon with Elzinga. Also, Anna Gordon is an awesome TA. She really understands the material.

Coppock's lectures are really clear, and he does a great job at clarifying and explaining the concepts. It helps that he wrote the textbook too. I thought his two midterms were very straightforward. Just make sure to know the definitions as well as the rotunda principles verbatim.
I bombed my first test because the answers they look for are exactly how he says them in class/how they are written in the textbook. Reading is so important to do well on the test. I did exponentially better on my second test because I knew what to expect and studied the points that he emphasized in class. Honestly, I loved the class though. I wish I were better at economics so I could major. But Coppock makes the topic so interesting and I never missed his lecture because each one was very worthwhile. Clicker Questions are a part of your grade. Discussions were worthwhile (at least mine was).
He's a great lecturer, but his tests are impossible. He wants such specific things that you can't possibly hope to get some of the questions right. I would recommend taking it with a grad student and stopping in some of his lecture from time to time.
This course was by far my favorite of my first year! Coppock is a truly amazing professor. I enjoyed ECON 2020 more than ECON 2010, not only because the material was more relevant to the real world but also because Coppock actually teaches during class. He has notes on the screen and goes through material. I did read his textbook, so his lectures were very similar to the chapters, but he just has a way of making concepts that seem difficult at first really easy to understand! The grade consists of two midterms, clicker points, discussion grade, and a MC final. I found the midterms and final really fair - if you study the lecture notes and truly understand it then you will do fine. I HIGHLY recommend this course to everyone because it clears up any misconceptions you may have about the economy and the government's role in it, specifically fiscal and monetary policy.
I enjoyed this class more than ECON 201. I found the topic to be far more interesting, and Professor Coppock is just as good as Professor Elzinga. Whereas ECON 201 focused on economic forces and individual decision-making, ECON 202 focused on the national economy and macroeconomic policy. And though Coppock is not as famous as Elzinga, he was definitely a better lecturer. The course was structured very similarly to ECON 201. Lectures were twice a week, and clickers were required. Discussion was once a week and was not mandatory because my TA points were awarded according to online quizzes. My TA was Pingyu He and I would not recommend her, as she does not speak very good English. I found the midterm and final exams to be easier than Elzinga's, though in my opinion, the answer keys were botched on both exams. There was, of course, the legendary Dutch-knockout on the final exam, which can be very helpful. A fair warning, however- there was essentially zero curve this semester, maybe 1 pt at most. Do NOT rely on the curve in this class. Bottom line: very interesting and fairly easy course. All UVA students- regardless of their interest in economics or business- would do themselves a favor by taking this class, as it is essential for the making of a well-informed and responsible citizen.
While not the most interesting class, Professor Coppock is a great lecturer and tries to keep students interested. He's almost too straightforward with what you need to know to the point that lectures can be boring. And then the straightforwardness is lost when you get to the final exam where questions are obviously designed to trip you up. Overall a solid class though.
Coppock is a great lecturer, although biased toward Classical Economics. He presents information in a very easy to learn fashion. Minimal work is required to understand concepts. However, it seems like the less you know going into his tests, the better you do. Final is a tricky multiple choice test with Dutch Knockout. Little curve. Recommended if you need it.
Professor Coppock is hands down one of the best professors at UVA! His class was always a pleasure to attend, and he definitely has me considering an econ major which i certainly did not think would ever happen. He is engaging, hilarious, and incredibly clear, helped by the fact that the text book we use is his, and complements lectures very nicely. My one complaint would be that grading can be very stingy and the curve is certainly not as generous as you a lead to believe it would be. With that said, try your best, read the book, and attend lectures (you will want to), and you will do fine. Class consists of 2 midterms, final exam with possible dutch-knockout, TA points, and clicker questions.
This was my favorite class of the semester! Coppock is an amazing and interesting lecturer, this was the first time I've ever enjoyed reading the textbook for a class because it was so well written and the class material is relevant in everyday life. The exams really weren't that hard if you always read the textbook and attend lecture. I got a 95 on the Final Exam, and there was dutch knock out, but I would've done fine without it. The Final definitely emphasized the material from the last section. There was hardly ever homework, so overall this class was stress-free, enjoyable, and I would highly recommend it to anyone! That being said, I'm a first year pre-commerce or econ. major so I enjoy the material! Also I took this class without any Micro experience and still got an A no problem.
