Coppock oversimplifies everything in lecture so everyone pretty much knows all the information. Who can apply it on the test gets the better grade. There was no little to no curve this semester, in fact, you had to dutch knockout a 188(94 isn) on the final to get an A or 92 overall in the class. A 178 on the final was a b plus. Although Elzinga's class is harder because he teaches in a less simplified manner, its harder to get a good grade in coppocks. For reference, I got an a in both classes

Definitely one of the better professors at the University. This is an easy A for pre-comm students because the difficulty level is low relative to the other prerequisites. In addition, throughout the semester he literally tells you what to do to receive a good grade in his class.
Finally, there are about what seems to be 70 clicker questions throughout the semester and you only need 30. Do NOT cheat on them because he will prosecute you to the fullest extent.

Overall, this is great class, much better than Elzinga's, so take it and enjoy it.

Notes: Dajun is a good TA-- try to get him. Do NOT over think test questions. ALWAYS double check your answers after a test.

Coppock's one of the best professors at UVA. Worthwhile class even if you're not an econ/comm major

Coppock will appear to be a friendly engaging teacher and in his lectures he is, however he asks you to "Do not believe what you read on the internet, my exams are fair and gentle" this is the classic passive aggressive arrogance he displays throughout his class. The material in this class is relatively easy. The reason to take his class is because you know what you're getting: 2 midterms and a final, all fairly tricky (as per the grade distribution, the material is not as difficult as the grades would leave you to believe.) However if you know of a smaller macro class with a good Teacher, i would suggest taking it. Coppock class is not very personable. His office hours are generally a waste of time, he will spend 25 minutes talking to the person in front of you about tennis then tell you he only has five minutes left in office hours so make it quick, he seemingly forgot he scheduled "office" hours not "social" hours. I got a B+ in the class and I'm not a econ major so I'm not bitter about a grade, I just think he is not a good person. Frankly he just does not get it. His tests are graded difficultly, fairly by his standards but his standards are unreasonable, so there is slippage in what he expects and what is reasonable for an intro econ class. On balance certainly should take Econ 2020 though his class in particular does not need to be as difficult as it is. Hope this helps.

Coppock is a fantastic lecturer who can keep a 500-person auditorium engaged as if it were a 30 person class. Material is easy yet interesting

Took it in the large chemistry building auditorium, didn't see his face for the whole course. Tough multiple choice final, be prepared
