Review Summary Updated April 05, 2026

This instructor consistently earns high praise for being genuinely approachable, exceptionally clear, and deeply passionate, breaking down dense material into concise lectures that heavily emphasize interactive in-class practice. The content moves at a fast clip and builds directly on foundational calculus concepts, so attending lectures and keeping up with the steady stream of pre-class videos and worksheets is absoluteley necessary. Students who regularly attend office hours and utilize the multiple revision chances on daily assignments typically navigate the workload smoothly, aided by the instructor's flexibility and straightforward grading policies. Be prepared for department-wide exams that are significantly tougher than the practice work, but consistently reviewing those worksheets and provided examples will reliably set you up for a strong grade.

Professor Hellings is a sweet professor. You can tell from his lessons that he is super passionate about the subject and really wants to see his students learning. He is really nice and super helpful during office hours and about emailing him for questions. I also found that his lessons during lectures were a lot more helpful than the textbook. While the textbook is a tad dense, his lessons were clear and help you digest the topics and see connections between chapters a lot more.

With four midterms, this class is definitely a kicker. Hellings didn't have quizzes so take that as you will as far as making the tests harder or easier. Still, def recommend!
