The professor is smart and likes to chat but his lectures are not very engaging. There are four "exams" (more like tests, 20 or so questions) that have super random questions, the worst was one asking about income inequality in DC. If you didn't know anything about DC's demographics or missed the two minutes spent talking aloud about that slide you were out of luck. I will say that the second two exams were easier and more common sense if you know about climate change.

The GPA average being so high despite the specific exams is suspicious to me because all the exams were take home and online under the honor code. In addition very few people showed up to lectures after the first week, especially on Fridays, and a fair amount of the content in the exams was only said aloud. Take good notes and sit near the front to stay focused because this class is hard for a gen ed. Each exam is 20% of your grade so you really have to be careful and know most things on the slides/readings.

Professor Doney is a good guy I think, but the class really isn't too engaging. It's all lectures with 4 exams that end before exam season (which is nice), but the lectures tend to be a bit boring. Really he's quite smart and knows what he's talking about, but the urge to skip definitely creeps up on you if you're not careful. It's a fine intro course and gets you credit, but if you're interested in environmental sciences or something similar as a major I'm not sure it's a good representation. The exams are alright if you do the readings but count for 80% of your grade so be careful!

While this class isn't particularly difficult, I found the lectures to be super boring. Your grade is based on weekly homework assignments and exams. The homework assignments are about ten questions on Canvas and not hard since you had multiple attempts, and the exams were online, so you had the option to take them from home, which was nice. The professor was pretty nice, but just overall had boring lectures that put me to sleep. I also found that when trying to explain certain topics, he was a little convoluted. But, if you need a decently easy environmental class to fill a requirement, I recommend taking this.

Professor is a really cool chill dude who is genuinely interested in the topic. Attendance is not mandatory but the lectures are not recorded either, so if you miss class you have to basically make it up yourself and most of what he teaches is said rather than written on the slides. But if you do the readings it is mostly explained. He is very generous with the homeworks and the exams, and while it is not the most interesting class in the world it is what you make of it. It's very introductory so if you took any kind of environmental studies in HS a lot of the material will be repeated . Good for gen ed req or if you have no experience in evsc and want to begin somewhere non-intimidating. Overall would definitely recommend.
