Class taken Fall 2025 w/ Devin Zuckerman

So, this class underwent a major revision between last year and this year. Instead of being a large lecture class, it is now a small discussion class. The class usually started with silent journaling, then transitioned into small group discussion with occasional large-group discussion. Unfortunately, there are two major problems with this: the professor almost never gave her own insight, and if the people sitting next to you don't do the readings, you just sit there for an hour in uncomfortable silence. By far the best days of class were those when Devin took charge of the class and led us through a lecture/presentation.

I would give Prof. Zuckerman a few semesters to get her bearings, if you can. She is very new to teaching and needs some time to cook up a good rhythm/class balance. She is very nice and clearly knows her stuff, but hasn't figured out how to translate that into an engaging learning structure yet.

The grading breakdown was: 50% essays, 20% reading responses, 20% participation, 10% peer review. Do the readings, come to class, and offer thoughtful comments for an A.
