Cristina is an awesome professor! She is so kind, friendly, and funny. However, if you really want to improve your writing skills, do not take this class. She has a philosophy that the only thing that will improve writing skills is practice. Meaning, she doesn't teach pretty much anything about structure, grammar, revision, editing, etc. She is very "flexible" if you know what I mean. There is no writing outside of class. The only writing done is a couple minutes of in-class journaling (not checked) each class, and 5 micro-essays throughout the semester that are done in class. The micro-essays are the only grades, and they are graded as either "meets expectations" or not. So basically, you are guaranteed an A. I was frustrated with the fact that we didn't get any practice in the later steps of essay writing. The furthest we went was rough drafts. I wish she would have done more teaching to actually help us improve, but it was still a fun class.

Cristina is awesome. The homework for ENWR 1510 was literally watching TV, along with 5 papers scattered throughout the semester, all of which were fairly easy to complete and with plenty of time to complete. Cristina is amazing at supporting her students and getting to know each one in a way that allows her to help as much as possible. If you ever struggle with a paper assignment, just go to her office hours and she will help you out so much. She will memorize everyone's name on the first day and will remember them the entire semester. She is very flexible with due dates (will give extensions as long as you ask nicely) and page limits and cares more about content than anything. she grades ENWR using specifications grading, and this makes the course very customizable depending on what your grade goals are, and she reminds everyone of what completing each paper means for your grade. She is also very clear with what she expects from each of the assignments and is also realistic and doesn't expect each paper you write to be absolutely perfect. She encourages sharing of ideas even if they aren't well thought out and helps people truly learn about writing and come out of their comfort zone. This class is actually fun and interesting because who doesn't love watching and talking about TV.
