Class is def a ton of reading, but I think it's totally worth it. It is all discussion-based, so just be prepared to talk about the book in class. We had to write two 10-page essays, and you were required to "lead" class discussion in one class by preparing questions with a partner. Your class kind of makes or breaks the experience, but if you have a chatty group, it'll be fun! Nemec overall is a fantastic professor, very welcoming and kind with some crazy stories (get him going on random tangents)

Nemec is an absolute gem! He is so kind and fun, always has so many interesting stories to share in and outside the classroom. Course is engaging, not overwhelming. Sign up to learn a lot from both the prof and your classmates. All about discussing the book you're reading in class and sharing your insights.

John nemec is an amazing professor! He is engaging, thougtful, and changes the course based on what the class wants. This course is reading nuanced books on India and discussing them. The grade is based on participation and 2 essays, and Nemec allows you to use this for the second writing requirement! As long as you try and put in effort, you will get an A and leave the class a better person and citizen. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Nemec is the bomb. He spends a lot of time in class just telling cool stories about his life and then we just discuss whatever book we read that week (or half book). All of the books are things I would want to read outside of class anyways so it's very enjoyable. There's a midterm paper and a final paper but those are the only grades (besides participation but he is very lenient). He let's you take the papers in any direction you want for the most part. 10/10 recommend any class with Nemec.
