The lectures for this class mainly consisted of the entire class sitting in a circle and having a discussion led by the professor. There is a different topic for each class with 2-4 readings that accompany it. The readings are fairly long, but there is not much other homework for the class. There are four main assignments for the class: a midterm paper (5 pages), a final paper (7 pages), a research paper (10 pages), and a group presentation. Other than that, there is not much work, but you really need to make sure you start working on these assignments ahead of time because they take a long time to complete. Also, it is hard to know how you are doing in the class until you receive your final grade because the professor does not input grades throughout the semester. Overall, the topics are very interesting and the class discussion can be fun, but the papers were very hard to write last minute. I did not need to put much work into this class except for when the papers were due, but that is also because I did not thoroughly read all of the readings before each class. The professor is nice enough, but I did not interact with him much.

The course material was interesting but prof. meyer did not allow much room for classroom input and it often felt like he dominated the discussion with his own opinion. No rubrics or grade scales were provided for writing assignments and they were each graded subjectively. We had a class debate where he was supposed to sit back and allow us to discuss but he interjected frequently to give his opinion. It was frustrating trying to appeal to him in essays when we had no guidance or feedback on our work and then were penalized later. It feels like grades are based on how well you agree with him. I enjoyed the material and discussion when we had them, but not enough to sit through his class again.
