Course is mainly about surrealism and analyzing artwork. You do really cool things that explore all the different art opportunities around grounds. Even if you don't know anything about art, Professor Duong is just looking for your participation more than anything. You are assigned weekly readings and discuss them in class; they are really long but you can just ask some sort of AI model to summarize them and your good. He understands that this is just an engagement and doesn't make you do too much. He is really passionate about art and psychology, so his lectures can occasionally seem intense. However, this class is an easy A as long as you show up to class.

This course primarily focused on the art movement of surrealism and the political implications of this movement. The instructor was great and engaging and you could tell he was very passionate about the material. The readings/art pieces were short and not hard to read and while interesting, were not necessarily needed to understand the subject. I certainly gained a deeper appreciation for art as well as an understanding of how art can act as a medium of political expression. The course requires you to keep a dream journal, and there was an art exhibit at the end where you create your own surrealist art and have it displayed. Overall, it was one of the best classes I took first year, and my favorite of the Engagements.
