Relatively easy class. Not a ton of work outside of class - there were weekly reflections, a few assignments, and a group project. The readings were pretty dense and consisted of mostly political theory, but honestly I just skimmed through them because we ended up going over them in class. Lectures weren't super engaging, but Professor Goldblatt is very nice, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the subject. She makes a point to ensure that all perspectives are heard in class and that people feel comfortable disagreeing, which I really appreciated. Class consisted of a short lecture and going over the readings, then class-wide and small group discussion (which I enjoyed more), going over more interesting topics, like the affordability of college, millennials, race, and how war is portrayed in the media, among others. Also, she says that the engagements experience part is on your honor (you just have to submit a sentence saying that you completed all parts of the engagements experience), so do with that what you will.

I absolutely loved this class. The class structure consists of reading pieces about interesting political theories/philosophical ideas for homework, discussing them in class, weekly writing prompts (around 250 words), and a group project at the end. Professor Goldblatt is very knowledgeable in her area, and I strongly recommend making time to chat with her about her research during office hours if possible. She loves to hear different opinions and often leaves many issues up for discussion in class.

It is important to note that the issues we covered included financial pressures affecting colleges, institutional racism, and the role of education in democracy. The reading can be a bit dense since it is just an EGMT, but if you have an interest in politics or theory, they are quite engaging. After hearing about how other 1540s can be, it seemed that this one really stood out. I hope to take another class with her in the future.
