I took the What Do We Owe Joan of Arc engagement with Professor McGrady, and let me tell you it was rough. She seems so sweet, and she definitely cares a lot about the subject, but the delivery of the course was underwhelming. I came into this class expecting to learn about Joan and her story, but we basically just learned about the ethics of talking about her story. The main points of the class were learning about care ethics and understanding that Joan has been represented in different ways throughout time (which is a bit self-explanatory in my opinion, so the class got a bit repetitive/ boring). The homeworks/ readings were long and tedious, and we had both a final project and a final paper. The teacher seems super sweet, and if you love history and talking about ethics, I'm sure you would like this class, but if not, good luck!

I had Professor Petrovic! He was AMAZING. I could not recommend this engagement more! He asked us the craziest ethical dilemma questions lol they were always super super fun to answer. He was also super understanding with outside circumstances and would allow late work. His class is super easy, mostly just talking within your table group. There is a reading to do every class, but it is very fun, as it is just about Greek mythology. I loved this class so much, I would love love love to take it again!!!!!
I took Sci-Fi Ethics taught by Dr. Eric Hilker and loved it. Most people don't like their engagements, so I had very low expectations going in, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this class. The basic class overview is analyzing Sci-Fi and what it tells us about being human. The required outside work for each class was reading one to two short stories and writing a couple sentences in response to a question about them. Then class time was spent discussing these Sci-Fi short stories and delving into their details and themes. The grading in the class was extremely easy. There were three main categories graded in the class. The first was the responses you wrote before each class to the readings. These were all graded on completion. The second was a participation in class grade. This was also very easy to get and Dr. Hilker would give you then points if you occasionally talked in class and discusses in small groups when asked to. The last part was a final project were you wrote your own very short Sci-Fi piece. This wasn't graded on completion, but everyone I talked to scored very well. Overall, I would strongly recommend talking this class as your required Ethical Engagement for College of Arts and Sciences students.
