I took Prof. Chakravorty's course on the Dystopian Novel to fulfill a writing requirement, and I found it to be surprisingly enjoyable. As someone who doesn't often read, I thought the selection of dystopias was diverse, thought-provoking, and overall very good.

This class is a pretty big time commitment. We read 8 books this semester, with a short written response for each book. There are also two full length essays, a five page argumentative essay and a ten page comparative essay. Throughout the semester, the students also give presentations on the book the class is reading at the time. The class is mostly discussion based, which I found significantly improved my understanding of the novels and the bigger picture.

Prof. Chakravorty is a great instructor, extremely knowledgable and adding deep insights to every class discussion. She is also very helpful during office hours when discussing the essays, and she leaves lots of comments on them after submission.

Overall, this is an intriguing and relevant class that I highly recommend taking, especially if you're not an English major.
