Dr. Stephenson is amazing! She is passionate about food justice and writing, and it is evident in her coursework. She uses specifications grading, which makes the work enjoyable and the class, overall, not stressful. The class consists of readings, small activities, and 3 writing projects (the 3rd is a group project and is more open-ended). There is a volunteer component attached to the class, in which you are required to volunteer 20 hours over the semester (a manageable commitment, and Dr. Stephenson will help you reach it if you initially fall behind). This was great as it exposed me to a few service opportunities in the UVA/Charlottesville community early. Highly recommend this class to complete the first writing requirement.
