This is a really cool class for those in the humanities who want to learn some more technical skills or just get a break from all the reading and research. The class is taught almost entirely with Adobe InDesign, so you'll need to pay for that subscription (around $35/month). It's a pretty intuitive software with some cool features. The major assignments are a mix of graphic design, editing, and document layout that teach you the basics for the final project, which is a fully printed book of any material you choose. Most people take the easy route like I did and just do a compilation of essays or other stuff that's already written, but if you want to get more creative and spend a lot of time developing your idea, you're free to do that. It was fun deciding on the aesthetic and layout of my book, and I made something that I'm quite proud of. It's nice to have a physical token of what you accomplished, which is something you don't get from almost any other English class.

I took this class online, but it's starting to be offered in person again, so I'm not sure how the experience will differ. I will say a lot of the introductory material on the history of publishing is pretty boring, and the online exercises that teach you Chicago style are really tedious, but those are easy to breeze through. Overall, this is definitely a class that's worth looking into if you're interested in publishing or related fields.
