Great class! If you're interested in comm (specifically finance) it's a great introduction and it's not restricted to only comm students. The professor is very knowledgeable and an engaging lecturer. It made it much more enjoyable to take because we were mainly graded on writing / essays so there were no exams. The content is not always intuitive or easy but he is available to meet with and will work with you. #tCFF23

Markets and Investing is an extremely worthwhile class and Finley is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is very funny and explains complex topics in an easy-to-understand way. I am so happy that I took this class and have a much better understanding of financial markets. However, you are only graded on application papers where you have to apply concepts you learned in class to current events that you read about in the Financial Times. I honestly preferred this method of grading (no quizzes, exams, participation grades), because I felt like I had a better understanding of the concepts, and of financial news in general. It is imperative to take good notes in class, so you can explain the article in your papers. So, if you are okay with remaining attentive and engaged during lecture, take good notes, and are confident in your writing, you will love this class. Take Markets and Investing - it's one of the best classes at UVA!
