Not sure why I'm writing this now, but this class was pretty alright. I didn't actually like learning the course material because we did not learn much about the Ukraine/Russia war today at all. It was mostly older history, so if you don't care about the Cossacks or medieval Ukraine, this might not be for you. Luckily, all the assignments were essays on a particular statue you got to choose, so you didn't have to do the readings for class. Most of the class was actually about the role of statues and mythmaking in countries, so it tied to modern-day Charlottesville. I actually enjoyed researching the essays.

Overall, the professor is very nice, and I think he is going to tweak the class based on our feedback. If you are looking for the most riveting history class, this might not be it. If you are interested in the early history of Ukraine and Russia, you would enjoy this. I definitely improved my research skills, and the professor was always very helpful in office hours.
