I took this class without a major in MEST for the doubled-up graduation credit it provides.
Nizar is fascinating in his methods of teaching. He 100% knows the ins and outs of everything MEST and will entertain any faucet of knowledge you may have questions about regarding this topic. The only issue is that because he knows so much, the class can be a bit of a firehose of information as half the class either has prerequisite knowledge or master's students. Knowing that he doesn't expect absolute excellence and scales requirements of work to individual knowledge.

Professor Hermes is an amazing professor. You can tell he is very passionate about the topics, and the class is structured in a discussion format where you discuss and bring up ideas you had during the readings. The workload is quite hefty because the readings are long, but you'll be fine if you read and participate in the discussion. And this class isn't only for those in MEST, but for any other major of study as well. The only major assignments are presentations where you present one of the readings to the class and you can have a partner, a small optional creative project, and a final essay. Overall I give this class and Professor Hermes a 10/10!!
