TLDR: David is the best professor, and any class that you can take with him at UVA is worth it. Definitely take if you are interested in majoring in any of the global studies disciplines.
The class grade consists of participation (10%), 4 reflections, each on methods reviewed or different topics (10% each), and a final project worth 50%.
The first 4 weeks were just reviewing scientific terms and different methods of how to conduct interviews. After that, the course split into modules where David covered different methods of interviews as well as various methods of citizen science in the next module. Then, he went on to cover grant writing, which was the most practically applicable of the 3 modules that he covered.
The final project was completely up to the student, as he encourages us to come up with our own ideas, and he provides useful feedback along the way to guide us.
The class is also a little loose on deadlines, so it is important to stay on top of them and keep them in mind. Overall, if you put in the effort to do the readings and show up to class ready to discuss them while also producing good reflections and a final project, you will get an A. This is one of those classes where what you put in is what you get out of it.
