Mullins is amazing. I don’t understand he has less than a 4 star rating on Course Forum. He initially does seem a little dead-pan, but he cares so much for his students and the content that he teaches. Even though social theory isn’t the most interesting of subjects, I truly enjoyed our conversations around Marx and his ideology. The class was also stupidly easy. Yes, it was a lot of reading (often 60 pages a night since it was a summer course), but we only needed to get a 70% on our reading quizzes in order to meet specification. He grades on a specification scale, which means that essentially if you get 70% on all assignments you get an A. You also have 2 chances to re-do an assignment if you don’t meet that threshold. His tests are fair and straight-forward - if you put in the work, you’ll have no issue with getting an A in this class. I highly highly highly recommend taking any class with him if you have the chance. He’s such a kind human being and is one of my favorite people at UVA.
