SPAN 2010 is required for many UVA students to get out the world language requirement. If you can, TAKE SPAN 2010 with Profesora Soto. At the time of this review, she is a PhD student with the Spanish department at UVA and only teaches one section of 2010 each semester. SPAN 2010 is a flipped course, so you learn the vocab and grammar through homework and do practice in class. Profesora Soto went out of her way to make sure everyone understood the course content and material during the practice time in class by giving examples and writing on the chalkboards. Even better, Profesora Soto understood that 50 mins is not a lot of class time to take exams and she would stay late until each student was finished. She would also pass out exams early to those who go there early, showing that she really cares that each student gets enough time. She gave ample information in great detail for what the tests were about and I never felt like the tests were different from what she said. In addition, Profesora Soto responds to emails very quickly (usually a couple hours) and is very receptive in office hours. At the end of the year, there is a final conversation (15% of grade) with ten prompts, but she said that only 6 of the prompts were going to be the potential final prompt so there was less to study. Overall, TAKE SPAN 2010 with Profesora Soto, you will not regret it!
