This is a somewhat easy class. Although the material in this class is pretty boring and hard to understand, Rini is an amazing professor. Learning about how latin became Spanish over time was not interesting to me whatsoever, most classes were so boring you'd just be waiting for class to be over. There is no reading or homework, all exams were take home and open notes. We always had at least two days to complete and submit exams, but he gave extensions if you asked. I would say the hardest part about class was that it was often really unclear what the key takeaways were. When taking exams you would be running through the articles to try and find the answers because they weren't clearly stated. Rini always told us stories about his life and we laughed every class. He took the whole class to pizza at the end of the semester. He truly wants all of his students to succeed and is very understanding about absences and accommodations.

Wonderful class - Prof. Rini loves the History of Spanish, and he loves to teach. There was hardly a class meeting where the entire class didn't dissolve into laughter at least once. The easiest class I have taken at UVa, but that's not why I took it or why I would recommend it.
