Review Summary Updated April 06, 2026

This accelerated format combines two semester levels into one, so expect a fast start with daily online assignments, e-portfolio requirements, and cold-calling that demands constant attention. The initial workload feels intense and the classroom tone can occasionally lean discouraging, but the pacing quickly settles, exams closely mirror practice materials, and consistent effort will keep your grade manageable. Students frequently describe the constant homework as a time sink, yet nearly everyone agrees it forces rapid improvement and builds speaking confidence far faster than traditional language courses. Despite a few notes about a strict cutoff for the highest letter grade, the vast majority find this instructor’s clear expectations, active teaching style, and genuine investment in student success make this demanding requirement well worth taking.

Street is the absolute best. He genuinely cares about this students outside from a classroom perspective and he does everything he can to help you learn spanish. He’s also the head for all of the spanish 1060 class, so he knows exactly what’s on every single test because he approves it. This can be very helpful during office hours if you’re struggling. Furthermore, it’s pretty much impossible to get an A in the class, but also impossible not to get an A-. But overall I’d take it with street over any other professor.

Prof Street is a great human being who wants all of his students to learn Spanish. The first problem with this class is that to get an A, you must finish the class with at least a 96; anything else is an A-. The second problem is that the different teachers grade completely different, and Street does not grade to help his students get an A. The work is not difficult, but there is a lot of annoying busy work. From what I have heard about other language departments, other languages are much more enjoyable and are easier on the GPA. If you think Spanish is what you want to do, Prof Street is very nice and a great teacher. I would not take this class again if I had the choice however.

TAKE THIS WITH STREET, HE'S GREAT! This class has a lot of work outside of the class but that work it a good buffer grade because it is pretty easy to get A's on the homework assignments. You have a partner project that is not too bad and the exams aren't too hard but get harder as the semester goes on.

Seriously one of the best professors I have had. He does such a good job of making sure students are understanding. He relates to students really well and knows how to have fun in class.

As far as UVA language classes go, professor street makes class the most enjoyable of any professor I've had. Languages are always a lot of work, but he communicates very clear what is expected of you and makes an effort to be available outside of class.

Professor Street is the man. His native language is English so he completely understands which aspects of the Spanish language are tricky for English speakers. He's also super down to earth and wants everyone to do well. Definitely take him.

The man is a legend, what can I say. He absolutely kills it. Great classes, worthwhile activities, he reminds you constantly of upcoming projects and quizzes/tests. His work is the same as any other 1060 class. Try to get him.

Professor Street was an amazing professor for this course - wish he taught 2010. The structure of the class is very fast paced (since it combines 1010 and 1020), but if you have a background in Spanish (I had 4 years of high school Spanish) you will do fine. In the beginning you cover a chapter a day, but then it slows down to two days for a chapter around the second half of the semester. There is a lot of online work with Connect, which can be extremely frustrating, but over all I learned more in 1 semester than I did in 4 years of high school Spanish.

I absolutely recommend Professor Street. He's super cool, very nice, and really easy to talk to. He definitely helps you understand the material. Best Spanish teacher I've ever had! Take 1060 with him!!
