I had Professor Hertel for the fall semester of 2025. She is super helpful and always encourages you to learn more and participate even if your Spanish is a bit rusty. She definitely encourages a friendly learning environment that deepened my understanding of the language and vastly improved my Spanish. There is a decent amount of homework that can be tedious, but it isn't too bad overall. Exams and quizzes aren't too terrible with enough studying. Getting an A can be difficult since you have to get a 95.5 or higher but it is certainly doable. I would definitely encourage consistent practice as units can go by quickly with lots of new vocabulary and grammatical structures. For anyone who wants to finish their language requirement or go further in Spanish, I highly recommend taking it with Hertel.
