Rider Foley is a very entertaining and personable instructor. He has a wonderful way of presenting the significance of STS, and making you actually care about it rather than just learn about it. This section of STS with Rider is much more class discussion based, but this actually makes it a much more engaging space. I felt comfortable to share the thoughts and opinions I held on things, helping me to resonate and engage with the content more than any class in engineering I have ever taken before. Rider will always be straight forward with you, honest, and real. His feedback for grading helps you a lot and his demeanor motivates you to actually write a good thesis paper. He loves to tell stories and be so random, but he's funny, and entertaining. He makes some of the classes optional workshop days, but given the option, I would never skip his class, because every class was so different, and this class developed a feeling of motivation and excitement about society and engineering. (Honestly, my favorite professor at UVA)
